What's New

The Tysons Corner area has a long history as the home for many firms operating in the federal and state sectors.  With Freddie Mac and the CIA headquarters just down the road and abundant high quality office space, most of the top prime contractors have maintained a presence in the Tysons area for decades.  Now, with the list of contracting firms in Tysons measuring in the hundreds, it was logical for the Tysons Regional Chamber to form its Government Contractor Council.

Established in early 2013, the council’s mission is to serve entrepreneurs and operators of emerging and established firms that supply products and services to federal, state and local governments by providing opportunities to enhance their knowledge, business relationships and develop business.  The council strives to achieve a 50/50 participation presence between contractors and firms that provide services to contractors, assuring the Chamber delivers a program of events and activities that are not only relevant to a contracting firms operation but beneficial to program participants.

While the Council is in its infancy, its members strive towards a program of monthly activities that will give contractors the opportunities to share experiences and knowledge, meet and network with potential partners and have a forum where they can communicate with elected officials and directors of relevant agencies.  The goal is to develop and sustain an environment where emerging firms can receive mentoring from experienced executives and offer established firms the new and innovative capabilities that make partnering relationships flourish.

From the start, the monthly GovCon De-brief roundtable lunches have been a success.  Offering topics on business strategies in a time of de-escalation, advice on proposal writing and leveraging performance records in partnering, the Council has stood out among contracting firms as offering a unique program.  As we progress, we will be offering Contractor networking Happy Hours and in the fall seminars on compliance, funding, business technology and staffing. Members and Contractors get special opportunities but events are open to anyone.

This Council is a volunteer effort served by many intelligent, capable and talented people who realize the great benefit area contractors can receive by participating in relevant programs.  We encourage new ideas for education, mentoring and partnering.  Each member of the council has a voice, is given the opportunity develop their own event or program or leverage their knowledge base and network for the betterment of the community.

Until otherwise announced, the Council meets on the first Tuesday morning of each month (accept July) at the Tysons Chamber Office.  We welcome any Chamber member or prospective member to sit in on a meeting to learn more about our initiatives and programs. Anyone who wishes to formally join the council may do so by contacting the Chamber’s president Lisa Huffman.
